One in 10 Canadians with arthritis had clinically relevant levels of major depression. Age- & sex-adjusted odds ratio of major depression & suicide ideation among those with arthritis was approximately twice that of those without arthritis. One in 5 individuals with arthritis & major depression had been suicidal in the past year. Less than half of those with major depression had consulted a mental health professional. (43 refs.)
