Association of Limbic System-Associated Membrane Protein (LSAMP) to Male Completed Suicide

Data was obtained from 288 Estonian male suicide victims & 327 healthy male volunteers. 30 SNPs from the limbic system-associated membrane protein gene & adjacent region were selected by Tagger algorithm implemented in Haploview 3.32. Chi square test revealed 4 allelic variants located in the intronic region of the gene to be associated with suicide, major alleles being overrepresented in the suicide group. The associations did not survive multiple correction test. Further studies are needed to understand the exact contribution of the limbic system-associated membrane protein to the pathoaetiology of suicidal behaviours. (34 refs.)
