Abstract
Examining a Model of the Relation Between Religiosity and Suicidal Ideation in a Sample of African American and White College Students
Walker R L~~Bishop S~~~
A study was conducted with 459 university students in the United States. Certain aspects of religiosity, social support, & depressive symptomatology were examined on how African Americans may be differentially protected from suicide. Methods that were used were the Beck Suicide Scale, Beck Depression Inventory, and the Religious Orientation Scale-revised. The results show the more depressive symptomatology recorded, the more there were suicidal thoughts. Further investigation is warranted across age, socio-economic, & ethnic groups. (58 refs)(CH)
