Multiple logistic regression analyses were used to compare cases of suicide with cases of accidental deaths in order to obtain data on risk factors for suicide in African Americans. The 1993 National Mortality Followback Survey represented an unprecedented opportunity to identify risk factors for suicide in African Americans & to determine whether race differences in risk factors exist. It was found that no variable conferred greater risk for suicide in African Americans than in Caucasians. (36 refs)
