This study looks at accidental death rates from firearms over time in the United States, rather than over regions. This study uses the estimates of the actual ownership of handguns, rifles & shotguns provided by Gallup & NORC polls & used by Clarke & Jones rather than measures of the strictness of gun control laws. This study provides a methodologically sounder analysis of the relationship between gun ownership & accidental death rates from firearms. (LC) (9 refs)
