This correspondence discusses the growing concern of responsibility-driven suicide as it often appears in the headlines of Japanese newspapers, usually pertaining to people who are in a socially high position. In some of these cases, individuals who face stressful situations develop depression & decide to kill themselves owing to illness-related despair, without seeking treatment. Although the actual number of deaths from iseki-jisatsu might be small, suicide for the purpose of merely taking responsibility cannot be overlooked, & should be prevented. (LC) (1 ref)
