This report expands on a previous publication entitled “Suicide Trends in New Zealand 1974-1994,” & presents statistical trends about hospitalizations & deaths from suicide & self-inflicted injury for the period 1978 to 1998. Topics covered include suicide deaths & death rates by age group, method, ethnicity, international comparisons, regional data & hospitalizations. Provisional data for this publication became available shortly before this publication was due for release, & has been presented as a separate section at the beginning of the publication.
