This manual provides general guidelines for frontline workers in First Nations & Inuit mental health & addictions services regarding how to conduct various types of assessments for individuals, families, & communities & how to utilize the information to assist community members to move towards improved health & wellness. Special attention is given to conducting a suicide risk assessment, the responsibility of the worker, & what to do with the information gathered. Issues concerning confidentiality & legal implications are also discussed, along with strategies for setting up, storing & maintaining records, & the obligations for doing so.
