This study examined the prevalence of selected health behaviours & protective factors in a representative population of New Zealand youth who attend secondary school. The authors found that students reported high levels of suicidal thoughts (males 16.9%, females 29.2%), suicide attempts (males 4.7%, females 10.6%), & depressive symptoms (males 8.9%, females 18.3%). Implications for policy are discussed. (27 refs)
