The Invisible Visibles: a Study of the Needs of the Homeless and Mentally ill in Guyana

This article presents the process & findings of a collaborative study of the homeless & mentally ill in the coastal area of Guyana. The authors provide a background on Guyana, along with a detailed description of the impetus, methodology, & design of the study. Demographic & mental health findings are presented. The majority of respondents were considered to be suffering from coexisting mental & drug/alcohol disorders. Those with such dual diagnoses were found to have the highest proportion of all mental health difficulties, including suicidality. (27 refs)
