Most assume that a life saved is better than a life lost. The author argues that this view may heighten personal & social problems rather than alleviate them. However, incorporating the theories of social & hedonist utility may help us understand outward & inward self-destructive behaviour. Such destructive behaviour may be directly correlated to low hedonist utility. The author concludes that suicide may be an appropriate solution to low hedonist utility, maladjustment & despair. (DO)
