The Measure of Adolescent Potential for Suicide (MAPS) was developed in 1990 in order to provide a thorough assessment of a youth’s suicide potential. This article outlines the structure, content, & process of the MAPS, providng an in-depth illustration of the face-to-face interview that is conducted during assessment, & the overall profile of risk & protective factors which is developed from it. The need to structure individualized crisis intervention responses is discussed. (18 refs)
