This letter to the editor comments on Brunner et al.sÕ study regarding cholesterol, essential fatty acids, & suicide. The author notes that, contrary to BrunnerÕs article, there is no evidence that lowering cholesterol does not seem to increase suicide. Studies are presented that indicate that naturally occurring low cholesterol levels are associated with increased risk of suicide (also contrary to BrunnerÕs article) which may be explained by an association to low serotonergic neurotransmission.
