This article addresses best practices in school suicide prevention programs. A brief overview of some of the literature available to school counselors on ethics, gender differences, methods, risk factors, precipitants of self-harm, & myths is provided. A profile of a potentially suicidal adolescent is included. A description of best practices for creating & implementing prevention, crisis management, & postvention programs follows. The article concludes by highlighting the most important legal implications for school counselors’ roles. (43 refs)
