Research on Mental Disorders in Adolescent Suicide (IN: Suicidal Behaviour in Europe: Recent Research Findings, edited by P Crepet et al)

The authors explore the challenges of reconstucting adolescent suidice and understanding its background factors by identifying several methodological problems of research. The role of mental disorders and social maladjustments is recognized in the findings of general population studies of completed suicide, and in a study of mental disorders in Finnish adolescent suicides. The authors conclude that the importance of recognizing and treating depression, antisocial behaviour and substance abuse among adolescents cannot be overemphasized. (40 refs)
