The incidence in Hong Kong of a specific method of intentional carbon monoxide poisoning was investigated. In the 2-year study period, 22 of the 56 reported cases occurred in the 3 months following a highly publicized case in which this method was used; no cases were reported prior to publicized case. Individuals who used this method were younger on average than those who used the more common methods of jumping & hanging. It is speculated this method of suicide is becoming more prevalent because it has been highly publicized, it is easily carried out, & it is culturally acceptable. (4 refs.)
