The first outlines some of the relevant sociocultural, political, & economic influences during the 1960s which resulted in the growth of the suicide prevention movement. The second section outlines the significant changes that took place in the 1960s in what became known in 1968 as the field of suicidology & discusses factors which affected the growth of suicide prevention centres in the United States.
