Ethical Issues and Their Practical Application in a Psychological Autopsy Study of Suicide

This article discusses the ethical issues that arose when doing a psychological autopsy study in Manchester, UK. The sensitive nature of the research is discussed, particularly in relation to the participation of the close relatives & friends of the deceased. These issues had implications for the research design & its application. The reactions of the informants are reported & their suggestions about their needs & the needs of the suicidal have implications for future health service provision.
