This article examines how well marriage, birth & divorce rates accounted for the suicide rates in Hungary. Time series regressions were carried out. The divorce rates were consistently associated positively with the suicide rates of villages, towns & cities, as were birth rates. For the 19 provinces, marriage, birth & divorce rates accounted for 63-93% of the variance in suicide rates. Results are inconsistent with predictions from Durkheim’s theory & merit further study of this discrepancy.
