This chapter examines the care of suicidal patients in the hospital & in the community. Clear procedures for the assessment & collaborative care of hospital patients need to be set out. Problems that may be encountered, e.g. failure to gain admission to the hospital, are discussed. A 7-step plan for caring for suicidal patients in the community is outlined. The advantages & limitations of community care are reviewed. Issues that should be considered when making home-care decisions are discussed.
