Neurobiology of Serotonin in Depression and Suicide (IN: The Neurobiology of Suicide: From the Bench to the Clinic, edited by D M Stoff & J J Mann)

This article attempted to find a relationship between serotonin & suicide, and depression. While reduced serotonin levels have been found in both, it has been harder to isloate low levels of serotonin in either one or the other. A pilot study shows that serotonin 1-A receptors are increased in suicide victims with major depression as compared to controls. Altered levels of G-proteins in the brains of depressed suicide victims were also found. (46 refs.)
