This document provides an overview of the results of a study which examined the degree to which a survivor’s grief leads to detatchment from family relationships following sudden bereavement. The sample consists of 92 survivors of 66 suicides & 105 survivors of 79 accidental deaths. Data was collected from medical examiner records & mail-back surveys. Results indicate that the most grief-stricken survivors report feeling more detatched from the family than the least grief-stricken.
