To increase the knowledge of psychotherapeutic aftercare treatment, 500 patients who had all attempted suicide by self-poisoning were studied. In the first stage, the compliance & 1-year outcome of the standard care were studied. In the second stage, the effects of motivational efforts & of continuity of care were analyzed. By combining motivational efforts & continuity of care, the researchers did no better in preventing recurrent suicidal behavior than by referring to special suicide services.
