Associations between adolescents’ perceptions of their family dynamics & depression, suicide thoughts & attempts were studied among Australian high-school students. Univariate analysis showed that family dysfunction measured on the McMaster Family Assessment Device is associated with thinking & planning suicide, deliberate self-harm, suicide attempts & severe depression. Stepwise regression indicated that family dysfunction influences suicide behaviour indirectly through other variables.
