Based on Durkheim’s theory of social integration as a key issue in egoistic suicide, this study analyzed 2 aspects of social disintegrative factors on the male & female suicide rates in Norway; namely alcohol consumption & divorce. Times series analyses on differenced data from 1911-90 showed that both factors were independently & statistically associated with the male suicide rate but not with the female suicide rate. Results are discussed on the basis of gender roles & social integration.
