The Longitudinal Pattern of Suicidal Behaviour in Borderline Personality Disorder: a Prospective Follow-Up Study

This article reports on a study of the longitudinal course of suicide behavior & ideation in patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD) compared to patients with other diagnosis. 97 patients consecutively admitted to a day unit were given a prospective personal interview follow-up evaluations at admission, discharge, & at follow-up (2-5 years). Even when controlled for Axis I disorders, BPD patients showed significantly more often a lifetime history of suicide attempts. (32 Refs.)
