The risk of suicide for patients with Parkinson’s disease was compared to that in the general population. The study involved 458 patients. The follow-up period to either death or the end of December 1990 was 0 to 17 years. There were 254 deaths in the follow-up period. Two women committed suicide. The number of expected suicides was 1.06 for men & 0.55 for women. The difference between expected & observed suicides was not statistically significant for males or females. (13 refs.)
