There are few studies on suicides in school-age children. This report points out the potential of suicide in younger children. The number of suicides among children is not known as most self-induced deaths and injuries are classed as “accidental.” In a recent study of 58 admissions of children between the ages of 6 and 12 to a psychiatric hospital, 72% were found to be suicidal, manifested by either suicidal ideation (19%) or threats or attempts.
