This presentation recommends 12 standards for defining and/or constituting a good psychological autopsy study & notes the central task is to minimize the inevitable distortions introduced by the informants & interviewers. Differences between research & clinical diagnoses are noted. The author recommends that clinicians conceive of the clinical formulations & psychiatric diagnoses from psychological autopsy studies as research formulations & as research diagnoses.
