The relationship of religiosity to suicide in Sweden was explored using longitudinal data to calculate rates for both sexes, & for persons aged 15-29 years. Analysis revealed that religious trends were unrelated to the general suicide rate but were related to youth suicide rates. However, changes in religion were too closely related to changes in divorce to ascertain whether religious change or a more general trend toward social individualism was responsible for increases in youth suicide.
