This article describes a suicide emergency first-aid program, LivingWorks Education Inc., developed in Calgary by university professors & counsellors. The goal is to aid recognition of suicide risk & help revive the will to live. The program has been delivered to about 50,000 caregivers worldwide. It is is based on the fact that at least 50% of those who commit suicide have seen a caregiver, but health care workers are blocked from helping because of fear & their own feelings & experiences.
