Abstract
Investigating and Documenting the Custodial Suicide in Preparation for Litigation, Part I
Spencer T E
This article is the first part of two on the proper institutional response to a suicide in a jail setting. The author asserts that most jails do not have a preset plan of action to pursue if a suicide occurs, and so a suicide can turn into both a public relations and litigation nightmare. He describes common mistakes and correct procedures for public relations and for investigation into a suicide. (Part 2 – 910735) (VM)
