Death at School. A Guide for Teachers, School Nurses, Counselors, and Administrators

This paper provides guidelines on how to inform students of the death of a parent or sibling of a classmate, the death of a classmate or teacher, or the death of grandparents, extended family or pets. Specific instructions are provided for elementary, middle & high schools. Traumatic school deaths are also discussed. The article concludes with typical responses to death by each age group, as well as the appropriate aid to give. (VM)
