Attachment theory, in the context of this article, states that when faced with a potentially life-threatening illness a person will exhibit attachment behavior in their appropriate style. Through the use of various self-rating instruments this was found to be the case. It was determined that the group at greatest risk for suicide behavior was the false-secure (denial response) group. Being control driven this group will make attempts in response to feelings of chaos.
