Discusses anorexia nervosa as a possible variant of an affective & mood disorder. Case examples are given of depression, substance abuse & suicide attempts in anorectic patients. The suggestion is made that there may be 2 separate populations of anorectics, those with & without affective disorder. 12 refs.
