Examines traditional biases about the nature of mental illness & the academic environment & discusses models of cognitive & emotional functioning that challenge the assummption that separating seriously disturbed students from the classroom is in the students’ best interests. A comprehensive range of services can serve to create an environment responsive to & supportive of the student in distress, leading to significant educational benefits for both student & institution.
