In this study, an item analysis of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) of suicidal psychiatric patients, including those who committed, attempted & threatened suicide, were compared to nonsuicidal patients. Differences appeared only between the threat-suicide group & all other groups. The authors suggest that this is because this group has not yet acted out their suicidal behavior, & are at a stage of increased tension. A 52-item “threat suicide scale” is also presented. (VM)
