Undergraduates Who Attempt Suicide Compared With Normal & Psychiatric Controls

Compared 81 undergraduates suicide attempters, 81 psychiatric controls & 81 normal controls, matched for sex & academic status, on 19 demographic variables. Also, compared 23 attempters with 23 psychiatric & 23 normal matched controls on 4 psychological & 4 psychotherapy expectancy scales. Attempters showed significantly more depression, somatic complaint & social isolation than normals. Found no differences between attempters & psychiatric controls. Discusses implications for prevention.(24ref)
