The Medical Examiner Division of the Virginia State Health Department is responsible for the scientific, medico-legal investigation of all violent, suspicious, unnatural, & unusual deaths. This report provides statistical data on accidental death, suicide, & homicide by means (1978-87); teenage suicides since 1968; deaths by firearms since 1968; manner of death by drug tests with percent positive, by marital status, sex & ethnicity, age group, & occupation (1987).
