The authors present a sociological view of suicide in Mexico. They claim that 1) loss of or decrease in social status is a condition that predisposes to suicide, & 2) that a rise in economic & social welfare brings with it an increase in suicide rates. The effect of demographic variables–age, sex, marital status, occupation, education–are discussed in this context. (NBB)
