Neurotics at Risk and Suicidal Behaviour in the Hungarian Population

A representative sample of Hungarians over age 20, was studied for relations between neurosis risk, suicidal behavior, drinking habits & life style characteristics. By the Juhasz Neurosis Rating Scale, 23.6% were at neurosis risk, with regional differences. Suicide attempts & rates by county were mutually independent. Those with higher rates of suicidal behavior had a high neurosis risk. 26% attempted suicide where there was a suicide in the family, only 1% where there had been none. (KM)
