This study investigates the relationship of health, religious orientation and social support to life satisfaction in a sample of hospital patients with lung cancer, myocardial infarction, and osteoarthritis. Data was collected by the use of the KPRS, NSSQ, C/I/C/EROS, SAISS, and a semi-structured interview. Illness was found to decrease life satisfaction in the first two groups but not in the osteoarthritis group. The significance of social supports, religious beliefs and values is discussed.
