On Death and the Continuity of Life: A “New” Paradigm (IN: Between Survival and Suicide, ed. by Benjamin B Wolman and Herbert H Krauss)
Lifton R J
The author develops a central paradigm of “death & the continuity of life”. The paradigm is elaborated through a theory of symbolic immortality, an accompanying theory of evolving death imagery, & a discussion of the application of this paradigm in clinical work & psychopathology. The paradigm recognizes the scope of man’s symbolization & provides a link between biology & history that is necessary if either is to be sustained. 30 Refs. (LH)
