The Hungarian attitude to suicide is characteristically JANUS-FACED: The verbal attitude shows prejudiced disapproval but the exceptionally high suicide rate of the country reveals non-verbal approval.(p.2). The authors analyzed 200 randomly selected cases, investigating several factors including the role of suggestibility. A suicidal pattern was found in the environment of 30% of the cases selected, but only 10% in the control groups. (NBB)
