The author claims that the actual # of suicides are probably about the same as road fatalities. An analysis of demographics contained in the statistical yearbook published by the United Nations idicates that there is considerable variation in suicide rates for Australia. A rate of 12.1 per 100,000 was recorded for Australia in 1957; The rate for Victoria for the same time was 8 per 100,000. Early treatment pf depression and suicide education for caregivers & gatekeepers are suggested. (NBB)
