Preventing suicide in California is one of the three primary initiatives of the California Mental Health Services Authority (CalMHSA). CalMHSAÕs statewide suicide prevention initiative, part of the prevention and early intervention program funded by the Mental Health Services Act (Proposition 63) of 2004, includes activities and tools that target and support Californians at risk for suicide. Training and educational programs are a key component of this initiative. In partnership with LivingWorks Education (LWE), a suicide intervention training company, CalMHSA offered a training-for-trainers (T4T) course in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), an intensive two-day suicide intervention workshop, from 2011 to 2013.
