Highlights ¥ Suicide in older adults is an overlooked problem. ¥ In this study, death by suicide in older adults from 2000 to 2005 in Quebec was modeled using an ecological approach. ¥ Individual and area-level characteristics were both correlated with suicide. ¥ Hanging/strangulation and suffocation were the leading causes of senior suicide.
