This article first reviews the rationale underlying the use of CBT for the treatment of depression and suicidality (defined as suicidal thoughts and suicide attempts) in adolescents. The literature supporting the efficacy of CBT for depressed adolescents is then briefly reviewed. Because there are many excellent recent reviews of the efficacy of CBT for adolescent depression (see later discussion), the review of the depression literature is brief.
