Prisoners at risk of mental illness and self-harm or suicide can easily be missed by existing prison screening procedures. A remedy may be to “screen” prisoners in teh first week of custody. Self-report measures offer an alternative to lengthy clinical interviews. This screening may complement existing screening and suicide prevention procedures at the point of arrival to prison.
