This study aimed to develop the construct of a suicide trigger state by exploring data gathered with a novel psychometric self-report instrument, the STS-2. The scale was administed to 141 Israeli adult psychiatric patients with suicide ideation. Multiple statistical methods were used to explore construct validity & structure. Cronbach’s alpha demonstrated excellent internal consistency. Factor analyses yielded 2-component solutions with good agreement. Receiver Operator Characteristic analysis determined an optimal cut score for a history of suicide attempt. Logistic regression analysis found items sensitive to history of suicide attempt described ruminative flooding, doom, hopelessness, entrapment, & dread. (49 refs.) JA
